Katla's closest base
Vík sits on the central South Coast near the road approaches used for Katla and Kötlujökull glacier experiences. Starting locally removes the long Reykjavík transfer and lets more of the scheduled outing focus on specialist transport, the glacier approach and the cave.
It also fits naturally into a self-drive itinerary between Reykjavík and Southeast Iceland. An overnight stay reduces timing pressure and gives you a stronger backup plan if winter roads slow the journey.
